IS IT WORTH IT IN THE END?

I am so disgusted at the news on BBC today. The story is about 20 year old Claudia Seye Aderotimi, who has just died following a silicon injection administered on her in a hotel room. The reports say she had travelled from London to Pennsylvania to get the ‘buttocks injection’ which she ordered via the internet.

Pray tell, why would anyone, a Nigerian at that, still be interested in body enhancement after the numerous deaths in recent times? Let’s assume at 15, she wasn’t old enough to understand the causes of Stella Obasanjo’s death in 2005, is she so cut off from technology that she hasn’t seen the stories about Michael Jackson???

As the name ‘Claudia’ depicts, she’s of a Christian background, probably a catholic, aren’t there teachings about this in the bible?

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (Genesis 1 : 27)

Aren’t we Africans? A people who are distinguished worldwide for their ‘heavy lips’, ‘bulging tummy’ and ‘mountain moving backside’?

I can almost assume that this girl is a student in the UK with family members and friends who love and dote on her, whom she has now thrown into tears and sadness, all for the mundane desire of a body that rocks?

We must re-orientate our young ones in the way of the Lord. They must begin to understand that they were made by the perfect creator and that their bodies are the temple of the Lord and must be kept holy.

I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well (Psalm 139:14)

Parents, guardians, religious groups and churches have a lot more to do. In a world where there are revolutions everywhere, where young people are seeking to make an impact and write their names in the sands of time, no one should be driven by low self esteem as to embark on a suicidal journey such as these.

Love yourself in totality because asides from the TRINITY (God the father, Son and Holy Spirit), no one else will love you perfectly.

Beauty is not in the face, it is a light in the heart.

What shall it profit a man to gain the world (in this case, people's admiration) and lose his own soul (Mark 8: 36).

The boyfriend or 'babes' she probably sought to impress would shed tears, but only for a while and move on with their lives. Some will learn, others will promise to use a qualified physician in a proper hospital. The cycle goes on. For how long shall a generation continue like this?

"Mountain moving backside" had me cracking up...
Seriously tough, plastic surgery is a multi billion dollar industry that TV shows like Dr 90210 have successfully glammed up.
Re-constructive surgery does wonders for people with birth defects like cleft palate, but elective surgery for purely cosmetic reasons??? that's another matter entirely. I'm neither for or against it. I've not tried it, perhaps cos I haven't had the opportunity yet or maybe cos I see it as telling God He didn't do a good enough job??
People (men and women alike) are always seeking ways to look better.. One of our governors (I forget his name) had tummy tuck surgery... Stella wanted to look good for her 60th birthday, hence the fatal Lipo surgery.. She probably would've survived if the doctor didn't abandon her with her injuries for hours after the surgery and maybe Claudia wouldn't have died if she didn't take the cheap-internet-hotel room route.
Which makes me think you're right about her background. Flying all the way to Pennsylvania suggests that she hid it from her parents.
Moral of the story? If you decide that God didn't know what He was doing when He made you the way you are, don't do "shan't gree" like Stella and go ahead after other doctors have refused you cos they couldn't give you a clean bill of health, and don't be a "cheapskate" like Claudia... Whatever the outcome, be ready to face the consequences and keep PET's version of Mark 8:36 at the back of your mind "What shall it profit a man to gain the world (in this case, people's admiration) and lose his own soul"

wow.. thats sad. but instead of bashing her, lets look at the bigger picture.
some people have really low self esteem.. maybe she had been taunted from childhood bout her physical appearance, mistreated by many guys, cheated on.. bla bla
maybe she felt like having bigger bums would give her the oomph she desperately needed. things are not just black or white. dnt judge her 2 harshly, cos u never know wat prompted her 2 do it.
i am against plastic surgery too sha..
may her soul rest in perfect peace and may the people that did the surgery be imprisoned..amen!

This story is too sad!

It broke my heart when I read it..may her soul rest in peace

It just pisses me off because she didn't have to die! And you're right, society is not doing it's job for a 20 year to want to get buttock implants..for what!!!

*sigh*

Yes people, she didnt have to die, but now she has, hopefully, others will learn.

I read another report (yahoo news) and it says it was actually a 21st birthday present and that she was a dancer who wanted a bigger butt so she could get more jobs!

MMM ..I heard the news and I was truly shocked.

Unfortuntely, there is sooo much emphasis on how one looks nowadays.
In fact, I dont think Lionel Ritchie would have mede it in today's music industry.
(Sorry, I had to use him as an example - but let's face it, in his early days, one could not describe him as 'handsome')

As parents, we have to do our best to build a child's self-esteem.

That's why I ban all insults / taunts about body parts (i.e. skinny legs or fat tummy)in my house. If I even hear my kids describe someone as 'fat' or 'ugly', they know they will be told off.

I was a chubby child and I know how I felt when people made insensitive comments.

This is sad. There are many people mourning this lost... her parents, friends, maybe siblings. Like KitKat said, she may have had serious self-esteem problems from people making fun of her flat butt. I don't know why people have to talk about others looks. I usually believe such people suffer from self-esteem problems themselves and so they project that to others. Like Naijamum, I was made fun of throughout high school because I didn't reach puberty when others did.

it is sad, but even though she is Nigerian, I doubt she is one who has ever lived or has Nigerian orientation....either way, i cannot imagine some one would be that would still be that dumb, to be visiting quack doctors...May her Soul rest in piece oh

You know, when I told mmy German firend about the incident, she was shocked. Her reason was that when they mention bottom power, Nigerianas are in the fore front. She couldn't comprehend why this girl would go to that extreme for something like that. I found it ridiculous that
1) this girl was only 20 (or so they claim, since she looks so much older than 20)
2) that was her second time and according to the ex-boyfriend,she had had some complications the first time.
I guess when a person is hell-bent on self destruction, sometimes, it just has to happen. May Christ have mercy

I am amazed that in all these comments nobody noticed this whopper of a generalization...

"As the name ‘Claudia’ depicts, she’s of a Christian background, probably a catholic, aren’t there teachings about this in the bible?"

Pardon, but what has religion got to do with this?

The girl got plastic surgery because she wanted to be in music videos. Its that simple. There's no "other" explanation and I don't understand why you needed to drag God into this.

Na wah.

lol @EDJ.... you are funny i swear, but truthfully not everyone posses the so called stereotypical assests like the big ass, full lips and blah blah blah that Africans are meant to have. if she had a big ass already, i dont see any reason why she would wanna get surgery to have a bigger ass.

moral of story: everyone has insecurities, some insecurities can be worked on without surgery, while others need surgery, the only difference is whether the person is willing to put their life at risk to fix said insecurities.
